About the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library
The Friends of Carmel Valley Library (the CVL Friends) is a member-supported, all-volunteer organization whose purpose is to support the Carmel Valley Branch Library and the San Diego Public Library system. The CVL Friends is an affiliate chapter of the Friends of the San Diego Public Library (FSDPL), an official §501(c)(3) non-profit, educational organization. Contributions are tax-deductible as permitted under that designation.
What we help fund
The CVL Friends generate funds through membership dues, donations and the sale of used books in the Friendly Finds Bookstore. Money raised supports library needs not covered in the City of San Diego’s budget. Items we have funded include:
- Children’s computers, community room audiovisual equipment and window coverings, a children’s story time rug, bookshelves and patio furniture
- Expanded leased book collections and augment the City book and materials budget
- Materials and supplies for staff-led programming and special events throughout the year, including the monthly Family Concert Series and Summer Reading Program performances
City matches funds raised
Funds raised are matched by the City of San Diego matching program. Half of the matched funds go directly to the Carmel Valley Library and the other half to less advantaged branches. The CVL Friends also partner with the San Diego Public Library Foundation to advocate for library system needs with City Council members.
Attend a board meeting
The Board of the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 2:00 p.m. in the Carmel Valley Library Community Room. Anyone interested is invited to attend.
